Help Others As You Help Yourself

Every human in their lifetime will encounter both the joys of accomplishment and success and the despairs of hardship and heartbreak. In tough times, whenever individuals find themselves knocked down below the very ground they stand, the option of just laying down and giving up seems to be the practical choice. It is the fear of falling down again that inhibits people to stand up and so they lay down back to a place where they do not belong. As more and more people start deciding to give up and stay in the place that has confined them down to the chains of their own uncertainty, the surrounding individuals fall down as helpless dominos. Into the abyss of darkness will the lost and hopeless go instead of stepping up and setting foot into the shining light of bravery and affirmation of oneself. However, this right here is not the desired destiny for us—to just give up and surrender to the overwhelming pressures of the world. We are meant for so much more than that. I offer now probably my best advice I have ever given—let not yourself be stricken down so low but rather become the arrival of light that the darken world has waited for so long. If one sees his neighbor down in that hollow place of sorrow, then the righteous person should love his neighbor as himself and extend his hand, bringing the fallen back to their feet. Afterwards, teaching them how to walk accordingly in this new enlightened realm. The normal cliche of never give up does not fulfill the sole role of changing the world. The movement of change will begin in oneself, but will spread to those whom he has helped and cared for. To explain this so simple idea further, take a look at one of the nation’s greatest presidents, Theodore Roosevelt. “Speak softly, and carry a big stick; you will go far” was the key to President Theodore Roosevelt’s foreign policy. Roosevelt thought that talk was cheap and one can speak as loud as they wanted, but without a firm foundation to back up those words, they are meaningless. This can relate to people who think they are “successful” in life, but do not wish to help and aid others. One can shout to the heavens of all the awards, accomplishments, and achievements that he has obtained throughout his life. By doing such, he has given up the greatest opportunity of all helping others. Doing a million deeds for oneself will last only with oneself; however, doing one deed for a million will last with others for an eternity. Any man that wishes to become more than themselves, regardless of his social class, will become the leader among the masses if he believes that he is working for the prosperity of others rather than the self-gain of himself. In the end, every human being will be given the opportunity to not only prove to the world that he can stand back up after falling down, but also will be able to help his fallen neighbors and lead them towards prosperity and success.
